"How To Publish A Result Oriented Audio Informercial For Your Business"
By Kathy Shockley

Do you own a business where you offer a business opportunity such as a mailorder or MLM program? Are you looking for a marketing technique that will dramatically increase your "leads to conversion" rate? Something that can sell your opportunity for you, eliminate the "curious" so you can focus your time, energy and money on the serious?

About Audio Tapes...

You've already spent a small fortune on sales letters, newsletters, brochures, etc. Why in the world do you need an audio tape?

An audio tape has much more credibility than a paper or phone presentation. Why? Think about it. Just about everyone has a computer and desktop publishing software. Which means just about anyone can write and offer a free report.

The public has become jaded to the fact that those "free reports" are usually nothing more than thinly disguised sales pitches. What they want is information. They want to be educated.

Take a look at the difference between these two ads:

Report Ad:

FREE REPORT! Earn a $1000/Day As A Mortgage Loan Broker
Call 555-5555

Tape Ad:

FREE TAPE! "Successful Strategies For Cashing In On Real
Estate Without Purchasing Property" by Marv Goldberg.
($9.99 value). Call 555-5555

Which ad would you respond to? The second ad, right? So would your prospects. Why? Because audio tapes have more inherit value than paper equivalents.

Anyone with a computer can produce a report. However, if you're willing to go to the expense of placing it on audio -- then the information must be important and valuable. After all, who's going to invest $4,000 or more to get "junk" recorded on an audio tape?

What's that about $4,000? No, your tapes won't come anywhere near that price. However, the public has a preconceived notion on how much it costs to get an audio produced. For years, they've heard about how Recording Artists couldn't afford "demo" tapes to send out to record labels. Your tapes won't be anywhere near $4,000 to produce.

How Expensive Is it?

Many businesses are under the misconception that producing a business opportunity tape is expensive. The actual production and editing of a tape is only $250. Your tape doesn't have to be fancy or have lots of special effects, music, etc..

What it does have to have, is information. Your prospect wants to be educated. They want to know about the industry, who the market is, why there is a demand for the product or service, exactly how they will build their business, what you have to offer, and so much more...

Answer these questions without a lot of hype and you'll find that prospects will be more than happy to do business with you.

Script Writing...

Where is the real expense in producing an audio tape? It's in the script writing. It takes two weeks or more to write a good script. If you want a script writer to create a script from scratch, you're talking about $750 for a 32 minute tape, $1,500 for a 60 minute tape and $2250 for a 92 minute tape. That's just for the draft.

However, a better way is to take what you're already successfully doing and re-write it into an audio format. It's less expensive to hire an adcopy writer to polish your material, than it is for you to have them write it from scratch. Polishing will run you around $500 but it's worth every penny.

Depending upon who you have duplicate your tapes, the duplicating company may sometimes underwrite as much as 60% of the cost to "polish" a script, if you'll agree to use their services exclusively.

The person who helps you "polish" your script should have experience with "result advertising." Be careful of those who want scripts that will win an award. You want an audio script that win you business.

The person you work with should be willing to sit down, speak with you and take the time to find out what your expectations and goals are. Then help you write your script to achieve your goals and expectations.

Script Formats....

There are basically three script formats for business opportunity tapes. You can use either one or both of them.

The first format is what we call the "market" format. This type of tape, discusses the industry, market, demand and the role your prospect will play.

The second format is a Q&A or "interview" format. This type of tape is produced over the phone. You'll have someone interview you, much like you would be on radio or television. You'll discuss your business opportunity using the answers you've both discussed earlier.

Another format is a hybrid of the above two. On one side, you have the "market" and on the flip side you have the "interview." This can be a powerful combination, depending upon what you're offering.

The Power of the Third Party....

Who should produce your tape for you? That depends upon what you're offering. You can have your tape produced locally, if you want to. There are recording studios in most major cities.

Or, you can have the company who duplicates your tapes, produce your tape for you. How can this be of benefit to you?

Since they have no financial interest in your company and its success -- they can produce a tape that will have more credibility.

Let me give you an example. Recently, I had sales reps of several telecommunication companies contact me about producing a tape that would sell their long distance business for them. We created a generic tape, which discussed the industry, services, benefits, etc...

This tape does not endorse any one company over another. It simply provides factual and educational information on the industry and the services. It's power is in that it has eliminated the hype and is straight forward.

This tape works because it is a "third party" silent endorsement. Much the same as you might have if a local journalist wrote a featured article about your company.

Cost of Duplication....

This depends upon the duplication company you decide to use. Depending upon the length of the tape and quantity, you can get your tapes duplicated for as little as .85 cents each. You can save money by printing your own labels, this way each tape can contain different contact informaton. Ideal, if you have a sales force which will be using the tapes.

Your tapes should be duplicated on professional high speed duplication equipment. Using high quality, professional recording tapes, with five screws on the shell. Be careful of small "mom and pop" companies who duplicate their tapes on a small Copyette or Replica machine. These machines don't have the sound quality you need to be successful.

When looking for a audio duplicator keep in mind that there is a lot more involved than just duplicating your tapes. You may be able to find someone so desperate for your business they quote you a very low rate. But, what else can they do for you?

Can they show you how to use your tapes to achieve your goals and expectations? Can they help you polish your script? Show you how to make your tape more effective? Know what essential elements are involved to create a tape that will produce results?

Can they help you with order fulfillment? Finding or creating premiums? Show you other markets? Anyone can buy a $5,000 piece of equipment and duplicate tapes. What you need is someone who can sit down with you and help you build your business. Who is there when you need them. Who understands what you're trying to do and is willing to help you.

You need to find an audio duplicator who understands that if they take the time to show you how to use audio tapes, help you get started and be willing to work with you -- you'll stick with them, knowing they always have your best interest at heart.

You may be able to get your tapes cheaper when you start ordering 10,000 or more BUT you won't get the personal attention you deserve.

Having an audio duplicator who has a vested interest in your success is more valuable than getting the lowest bid on duplicating. Low bids are false savings if your tapes are not doing their jobs.

Don't let the initial investment of producing a tape scare you away from the huge profit potential this concept has for you and your business.

Think of all the time you'll save by investing your time, money and energy with the "serious" rather than wasting your time with the "curious." You'll have better qualified prospects and a higher leads to sales conversion rate.
